A brand new (and most importantly free) release on Steam currently has a 100% positive rating, and I can already see why this one is raking in the critical acclaim.

A demo for an upcoming deck-building game called Hungry Horrors hit Steam at the end of last month, and (as of it writing) it currently has a 100% positive rating with 16 reviews.

The aim of the game is pretty simple. You have a deck made up of lots of different foods, and you gotta feed the monsters you encounter (so they eat the meals you’ve prepared in place of eating you).

I thought this looked cute enough before reading the reviews, but afterwards my excitement for it went through the roof.

“I played the demo, and I absolutely loved Hungry Horrors! It's the perfect blend of elements I enjoy—cooking, card battles, and creatures from British and Irish folklore. The game is not only entertaining but also offers a fresh take on combining these genres,” writes user Crabby.

“Overall, Hungry Horrors is a highly enjoyable and well-crafted game that I highly recommend to anyone who loves cooking, strategy, and folklore. It’s a unique gem that keeps you coming back for more!”

“I haven't played too many deck builders, mostly some slay the spire, but this game is so fun!” states reviewer Skyaking_.

“The cooking mechanic is such a fresh take, and the music and sound effects are so well done and really add to the atmosphere. I also love the art, its so cute. Can't wait for the full release, I think this game has a ton of potential!”

Alright, any kind of vague comparison to Slay the Spire already has me sold. I’m a sucker for deck builders anyway, but that game is easily in my top 10.

No release date or even a targeted year in sight for the full release of Hungry Horrors yet, but I’ve already got this one loaded up in my wish list. As soon as we know more, you better believe I’ll be letting you know.
