It’s been a strong year for RPGs thus far with Crimson Desert arguably being the current market leader.
With The Blood of Dawnwalker, Gothic 1 Remake, and Phantom Blade Zero still on the way, there are plenty more to look forward to.
One indie RPG set to launch in Q4 of this year, so October to December, that may have passed you by is Edenfall: Legacy of the First Wardens.
This charming release from Everflux Games transports players to a fantastical world where they can shapeshift between a human form and those of a wolf, raccoon, and raven.

Ahead of the game’s launch on PC storefront Steam, a free demo has dropped and it’s already pulling in rave reviews.
“A breathtaking metamorphosis awaits as you guide Venya through a world overcome by darkness. Use her shapeshifting powers to restore peace to a land that has gone without, for far too long,” the game’s synopsis teases.
It’s hard really to draw a comparison between Edenfall: Legacy of the First Wardens and pre-established IPs.
I suppose there’s a Studio Ghibli feel at play here mixed with a touch of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
The animal forms you can switch between will help you navigate the game’s sprawling world.
The raven can, of course, glide, while you’ll want to use the wolf to pounce across gaping chasms. The raccoon is perfect for slipping into small gaps.
There are unique paths, puzzles, and secrets tied to all of the game’s forms, so Edenfall: Legacy of the First Wardens really encourages exploration.
Occasionally, you’ll stumble across creatures who aren’t all that friendly. The combat allows you to chain attacks from your various forms together.

“Chain a raccoon’s nimble strikes into a wolf’s feral fury, then follow up with a human’s finishing blow. Master the flow of combat and help restore peace to the world,” devs say.
Across the map are boss fights. Defeat a boss and you’ll clear that area of the map of corruption, which sounds a lot like Kena: Bridge of Spirits actually.
The demo offers a glimpse into the opening stages of Edenfall: Legacy of the First Wardens, running for around 60 minutes maximum.
Players have, at the time of writing, awarded the demo a score of 96%.
One called it “super fun”, adding, “This also feels like a better version of Forspoken.”
“The scenery is incredibly beautiful and it feels like the creator put a lot of love and time into creating the world. The music is super nice - feels like I'm in a fairy world,” added another.
“This game is beautiful and a lot of fun,” someone remarked, while a different review stated, “Super fun game with unique features and a beautiful art style!”
It sounds like there’s a lot to love about what Edenfall: Legacy of the First Wardens has to offer.
It’s only currently planned for a PC launch but this action RPG can be wishlisted now if you do want to be kept up to date on its progress.
As it’s targeting a Q4 2026 launch, we should get a release date and pricing info in the coming months.
