Steam’s latest free download is already garnering some heavy praise on the platform, and it’s probably a good idea you download and play it now ahead of time… before you get sick of seeing every streamer and YouTuber play it for a month solid.
Baby Steps, developed by the folks behind titles such as Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy and APE OUT, just got a new demo on Steam ahead of its release date at the end of this year, and it sounds like it’s everything we expected it to be.
In Baby Steps you play as Nate, who is described as “an unemployed failson with nothing going for him” who suddenly develops the power to put “one foot in front of the other.”

In case it wasn’t immediately obvious from the description and the developers involved, this game is intentionally and unfairly difficult. It’s like 3D, open-world QWOP, which sounds terrifying now that I think about it.
I mean, it sounds absolutely terrible, which is probably why the demo has pretty uniformly positive reviews on Steam… wait, what?
“The tightest game I've ever played, I delivered the cup like a big boy,” writes reviewer Robbaz.
“This game reminds me of Snowrunners, It can get pretty slippery. Can't wait for September, I'll order a Pizza and just bloat away.”

“God just like the last game, Bennett Foddy continues what David Lynch left behind”, states reviewer lion.
“This game is like some weird nightmare, or fever dream, and yet I can't look away.”
I’ve had my eye on this for a while, and frankly, it’s exactly what I expected it to be. I’m glad it sounds as punishing and as unfair as I expected it to.
Keep an eye out for the full release of the game on September 8 this year!
