There's something upsettingly addictive about idle clicker games and their like, preying on our most basic insticts to keep interacting with the game in order to accumulate as much of whatever the currency of the day is.

While Cookie Clicker will likely always be the most obvious example, there are plenty of other options that all do their best to do something different and to stand out in what is now a very saturated genre.

One of those is new Steam arrival and free game, Galaxy Idle Clicker, which takes the idle clicker premise to space, and does so in pretty spectacular fashion.

The game comes complete with five unique universes to explore at launch, each of which is made up of four galaxies, with four additional solar systems per galaxy.

The accumulation and spending portion of the game comes via the ship upgrade system, which comes with countless ways to customise and beef up your ship. This will then allow you to take on more difficult and frightening enemies as you progress further and further into the deepest reaches of space.

Happily, you won't have to manually put in all of the clicking effort yourself, as the game comes with a significant automation system that will allow you to accumulate precious resources and lay waste to enemy hordes while you're away from the game/desk/house.

If all of that wasn't enough for even the most easily distracted of folks, Galaxy Idle Clicker also features several mini games that intermittently change what's going on. This variety is a departure from other genre entries and it should do plenty to keep you entertained.

If you want to give it a go for yourself, just head to the Steam storefront, click download and you'll be in the cosmos before you can say "To infinity and beyond."
