When I stop to consider that 2015 was a decade ago, I feel like crumbling to dust.
The year brought us many wonderful pop culture releases, including the likes of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Batman: Arkham Knight, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Until Dawn, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Fallout 4, Jurassic World, and Bloodborne to name just a few.
It also marks the year that The Mims Beginning launched, a wonderful title that’s just gone free-to-play.
If this is the first you’re hearing of The Mims Beginning, it’s essentially a strategy god game.

Developed by Squatting Penguins and published by Mokosh Games, players control a cosmic world, planting vegetation, breeding animals, fighting monsters, and more generally overcoming problems by leading the Mims with your divine powers.
It’s all set across a series of floating islands which combine both fantasy and sci-fi elements so expect to encounter as many dragons as you do aliens.
It’s a lovely little game and one, as I said, that’s recently gone free-to-play over on Steam.
With devs focused on their latest project, The End of the Sun, they’ve decided to make The Mims Beginning free to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

“Over the past decade, we’ve been incredibly grateful for your support, feedback, and passion for our game,” they wrote.
“Thanks to you, The Mims Beginning has become a unique experience enjoyed by players around the world. We want to express our heartfelt thanks to all of you who have played, shared your thoughts, and helped us improve the game over the years.”
Given that it’s free, it shouldn't be too hard for me to convince you to check it out.
If you do need swaying though, allow me to point you in the direction of the game’s reviews.

It has a ‘Mostly Positive’ rating from players over on Steam.
“The Mims Beginning is a breath of fresh air in an increasingly stagnate gaming pool. At first glance, the game may look light and simple but very quickly you begin to see that this is a deep, well-designed strategy/god-mode game. The graphics are very detailed, the artwork is beautiful, the mechanics are flawless,” wrote one happy player.
“A funny and cute god/strategy game with missions and a survival mode, clearly made with a lot of love. The tutorial was good,” added another.
So what are you waiting for? Give it a download.
