Steam users have a new freebie to download now that’ll eat away at their free time, hopefully. It’s limited-access though so don’t be too disheartened if you don’t get in.

When Steam offers up freebies they’re usually…not good. That’s the nice way of putting it but sometimes you get the occasional banger.

Is Snatch one of those bangers? I honestly don’t know. But it’s free to try so why not see for yourself?

Taking a look at its Steam page, Snatch describes itself as a “wild twist on classic Pong—faster, flashier, and loaded with abilities. Deflect, dash, and unleash chaotic powers in fast paced matches. Battle relentless enemies in 1v1 duels or survive 1v3 chaos—dash, deflect, and dominate in fast-paced, single-player arcade mayhem.”

Never thought I’d see the day where someone tried to improve upon Pong but here we are, though to be fair it doesn’t look half bad.

While the game isn’t officially out yet, there’s currently no release date, you can enroll into early-access through the Steam page.

I can’t imagine the line to get in is very long since it’s a fairly niche title so if you apply now you’ll probably get to play when the developer allows you too.

Now I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the elephant in the room.

Snatch is confirmed to have used AI during its development.

The developers say as much further down on the Steam page, as Steam now requires publishers to say if their game used AI tools and what purpose they were used for.

For Snatch it says “we created the steam capsule and few ui elements in the game using AI.”

Now if you don’t have a problem with AI, fine, but I think the general consensus is AI is bad for games whether it be a small-scale project like this or a AAA game like Larian Studios’ upcoming RPG, Divinity.

It’s all about accountability but of course it’s down to personal preference whether you let it impact your desire to play certain games.

If you’re able to look past that, Snatch might be an ideal game for you to try if you like the art style and fancy giving an enhanced version of Pong a go.

You can register your interest in trying the game now, then kick back and wait for the developer to give you access to the title.
