Steam has just got a new free FPS roguelite you can check out now, and it might just be one you’ll lose all your free time to.
Free games are the bread and butter of Steam’s open marketplace. Between big AAA releases, smaller and cheaper titles are keeping our free time occupied.
Just from browsing the front page of Steam, you’ll often find a bunch of new free games available for you to pick up at no extra charge.
Anything But A Gun is one of the latest additions to the platform, with roguelite features that’ll keep you playing for hours on end.

Described as a “high speed” shoot ‘em up, Anything But A Gun focuses its energies on quick movement, diverse gunplay, and repeatable runs.
The blurb on Anything But A Gun reads: “In a workplace that's replaced all of its employees with AI workers, battle through a corporate office building using a variety of weird objects, all except a gun. As you travel floor to floor, combat the AI takeover with your own creative power and win everyone their jobs back. The only rule? Anything But A Gun.”

How it works is pretty simple. In each run, you’ll come across randomised room layouts which are filled with waves of enemies. You buy new weapons and upgrade them, but you’ll also need to make sure you have enough ammo.
As you play more and get better at the game, your score will increase and the world will even get brighter as a result. But if you die, you’ll have to start over from the beginning.
After three levels, you reach the boss stage, who represents the head of the company, marking a tough fight to end your run one way or another.
With the randomised levels and tough difficulty, it's definitely one you'll end up losing a lot of time to as you keep attempting to complete your runs.
If you’re worried about losing progress, there is a way to permanently increase your strength so you can play better in future runs.
That comes in the form of the game’s 30 different achievements, which reward you for performing various feats across all of your runs. If you manage to complete an achievement, you’ll earn a permanent buff to take with you into the next run.
Although Anything But A Gun doesn’t have many reviews at the moment, it seems to have resonated well with the players who have taken the time to leave a rating.
“Had a pretty good time, liked the reference with the cat, would recommend,” reads one review posted to Steam with a thumbs up, indicating that they recommend it to other players.
“Best FPS I've played all night!” reads another review, also giving it a recommendation.
Anything But A Gun is available now for free on Steam.
