Steam has a beautiful new demo for a JRPG that fans of the genre certainly won’t want to miss.
Positive Concept Games is working on a JRPG called Shrine’s Legacy, and it’s reminiscent of old games from the SNES era, like Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger.
It has all the features you might expect from a game of this type: a vast overworld, party members to level up, and lots of dungeons to crawl.
Although it doesn’t have a release date yet, you can at least play a demo of Shrine’s Legacy on Steam in the meantime.

Obviously, it isn’t going to be a massive slice of the game, but the demo does include two towns, two full dungeons, and three boss fights. It’ll also give you a sneak peek at the story and characters, totalling around an hour of gameplay.
“A dark shadow has fallen upon the world of Ardemia,” reads the game’s official description on Steam. “An evil force looms on the horizon and it's up to two young heroes, Rio and Reima, to take up the Sword of the Shrine and save the world from certain doom.
“Before they can save the world, the duo first needs to restore the Sword by finding its eight elemental gems of magic, along with helping dozens of denizens on the way.”
As for impressions players have on the demo, it seems to be very positive.

“I didn't finish the demo, not because I didn't love it, but because I don't want to spoil myself for the full release which I will be buying,” reads one review.
“There are many games that claim to be 16-bit inspired, but few manage to really capture the spirit of the generation as well as Shrine's Legacy,” another review reads.
"Shaping up to be an amazing game! Definitely plan on buying this one once it's out,” reads a third review. “It gets so many things right, and the music's great too.
There’s no word yet on when Shrine’s Legacy will release, but the demo should be able to hold you over for now.
