Steam has a lot of free games on offer, as well as plenty of demos for full price games, so you can try before you make a financial commitment. This consumer friendly approach is a large part of what has made the platform the behemoth it is today, but it isn't resting on its laurels.
The platform has four new free games available for players to download and keep forever, all of which look fairly original and worth a try if you're a fan of the genre they're in.
Up first is Escape Simulator, a platformer of the same ilk as viral megahits like Only Up! and the game that spawned a subgenre of its own, Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy. Strapped to a chair, your only task is to escape, with the major issue being that you have to control each leg individually in a clumsy awkward mess. It will inevitably frustrate, but if that's your kind of thing then there are immense laughs to be had.
Adding to the meme potential of the new games is C4 Clicker: First Mint, a parody game that draws on gameplay elements from farming to combat. The idea is that the whole thing is a parody of cryptocurrency and the culture that surrounds it, so expect to slay bag holding beasts and mint fake coins. On the nose? Sure. But funny nonetheless.

Up next to bat is Metabrawl, a beat-em-up, open-world adventure with a unique style and action-packed approach to gameplay. It comes complete with a story mode and dynamic arenas that change during the course of individual fights.
Rounding out the games on offer is Grind Hero: MMORPG, a fully cross platform 2D MMO with all of the trappings that you would expect from the genre.
All of the games are available now on the Steam store, so don't delay if any of them take your fancy.
