This new free game on Steam is basically just a playable advert for an upcoming game, but given the impressive review score and all of the praise the reviewers are giving it… who cares if it’s basically just a promotional product in the form of a game?
You guys remember when demos were weird?
Oh, sorry, I might be showing my age a bit there. Here, sit by this warm fire and let this old man tell you a tale of a forgotten age.

Back when demo discs were still a thing, demos were a bit weirder. Sure, sometimes it’d be your bog standard type of demo. It’d just be the first level of a game, or maybe you could play through a specific boss fight.
Occasionally, however, promotional games weren’t actually demos at all– they were whatever the hell Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun - Words of Vengeance is.
Now to clarify, this game isn’t anything like Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, really. It’s basically just a typing game, like The Typing of the Dead, but in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun’s style.
It’s also just a big old advertisement for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2, and the reviewers on Steam seem absolutely alright with that.

“Quite a fun little game, I'd actually pay for a full version of something like this, it's fun and hones your typing skills”, writes reviewer BingusDingus.
“This game made me slip up quite a bit, I'm typically quite good at typing, but needing to rapidly type a bunch of nonsense under pressure is surprisingly difficult.”
“Perfect for those who have desk jobs; you can play this, and they'll think you're working HARD”, writes reviewer Joey Chocolate.
“It's also educational; so now even children can serve the Emperor, discover Warhammer, and can pressure their parents into buying the $100 figurines in addition to their Fortnite skins, so as they grow they'll be in even greater debt for the Matrix. Very interesting idea for a game, and a very creative advertisement for Boltgun 2.”

Honestly I wish we saw more stuff like this in this day and age. I just miss the time when video games advertising was a bit more openly weirder.
I might be confusing that with missing the period of time where my back didn’t hurt all the time though.
