Fallout meets Silent Hill in our new gaming obsession

OoOoO, spooky

Fallout and Silent Hill is an odd combination, yet thematically they kind of work in this new Steam game.

I’m a big fan of both series, as while Fallout is very chipper with its RPG mechanics and 1960s aesthetic, it’s a lot darker than you’d think, and Silent Hill is just an endless stream of nightmare fuel, great for horror game fans.

So when you tell me there’s a game on Steam that looks like it combines the best, or worst, of both worlds, you’ve already got my attention.

The game’s called Misery, and while it doesn’t look like much at first glance, look a little bit deeper and you’ll find a compelling, horrific, gameplay experience.

Misery’s official description reads, “After a nuclear disaster, your bunker has become the last refuge. Every day is a struggle for resources, where every object is dangerous. Collect antenna parts to send a signal for salvation.”

In many ways, it looks like a PlayStation 1 game, maybe Nintendo 64 actually looking at some of those hand models; very GoldenEye 64-coded, but I think that just adds to the charm.

The world looks bleak and filled with danger, and the humans don’t really look any better. It seemingly hits every note in terms of what you’d expect from a game set in an apocalypse.

Unfortunately, we can’t dive in and play it just yet, as the game is due for release in June, which is only next month but we’d rather not wait nonetheless.

It says the gameplay will feature online multiplayer as well, so it looks like it’d be a good one to try out with friends, or randoms if you’re feeling brave.

I’ll definitely be giving it a go; it looks like it could be good fun and as a retro game fan, I’m already sold on the way it looks.
