Steam adds 5 new free games you can keep forever

But are they even worth downloading?

Five free new games just landed on Steam that you can download and keep forever, with absolutely zero loopholes required, but how many of them are actually worth playing?

Thank you in advance to the Twitter account Free Steam Games for collating all of these freebies!

So, I usually try and rank these by worst to best, but there’s a bit of an issue this time around… a couple of these don’t have a proper review consensus yet.

This time around, I’ve put the game that I think is the best right at the end, but the first four are interchangeable.

Right, first up is GeTrix from developer and publisher ToGGy. Basically, this is just your standard, Tetris-like puzzle game, but with a small twist.

This game expects you to use a camera to play it, because you're meant to solve the puzzles using "intuitive hand-tracking controls". Close enough, welcome back PlayStation EyeToy.

Ok, good luck with this one. CrimeBloc is a "gritty text-based MMO" from developer and publisher Conflict Studios Ltd.

Some of you are reading the phrase “text-based MMO” and recoiling in disgust, whereas the rest of you are probably locked in already. The reviews on this basically say it’s super confusing and they don’t get it, or it’s the best game ever made. Do with that info what you will.

Next up, Drift Legends 2 from developer and publisher Black Fox Entertainment. It's a racing game where you drift a lot, if that wasn't already clear.

This one actually does have a review consensus, and it’s “Mixed” with 57% of the reviews being positive. Seems the detractors think that it actually requires you to buy some of the DLC to even finish it, because the races are borderline impossible otherwise.

And in our second-to-last spot is Future Cowboy, a visual novel from developer and publisher Sleep Deprivation Studios where you play as a futuristic cowboy detective.

Is it actually any good though? Who knows! Only three people have actually reviewed it. Still, the premise looks cool enough. I mean, how could a game where you play as a “futuristic cowboy detective” not be cool as hell?

And finally, Ventomori is a first-person exploration puzzle game from developer and publisher Dark Matter Observatory.

It’s a co-op puzzle game, by the sounds of things. Sort of like a low-budget Portal 2. At the very least, the reviews are pretty positive overall on this one (although some do note that it’s a little buggy).

And that’s the whole list! See you back here in a few days for another one of these, because there will be another one of these.
