Gaming isn’t exactly a cheap hobby, but you don’t need to splash $70 on the latest release in order to have fun.
There are plenty of free games out there that are well worth your time, and I’m not talking about obvious heavy hitters like Fortnite, Overwatch, or Marvel Rivals.
For example, I’ve bet you’ve never heard of SnowBot.
This charming single-player adventure launched on PC storefront Steam earlier this week, and it’s already garnered an incredibly respectful 96% review score, correct at the time of writing.

Developed and published by inoutofit, SnowBot describes itself as “A small atmospheric adventure about a robot lost in a frozen wasteland.”
“Silence, cold, solitude… What lies ahead?”
Complete SnowBot In Less Than 2 Hours
Played from a third-person perspective, players will master “unconventional controls” as they guide the two-wheeled robot to safety in this third-person experience.
SnowBot is stranded on a snowy mountain.
In order to escape, you’ll have to use a gravity beam to lift objects and solve spatial and environmental puzzles.
You’ll eventually gain the chance to upgrade your robot, unlocking new abilities that’ll help you in solving puzzles further down the line.
“Explore the secrets of a frozen land by solving puzzles and surviving the harsh forces of nature,” devs tease.

There’s no exact runtime for SnowBot, but most players seem to be rolling credits in under a couple of hours, so this is perfect if you’re just looking for one evening’s entertainment that won’t affect your backlog.
“Short and enjoyable game. It has some original mechanics and is definitely worth trying — especially since it’s free,” said one reviewer.
“Every movement feels a little unpredictable, and that makes it fun. Sometimes you mess up and fall over, sometimes you manage to recover. Either way, it’s satisfying. It’s simple, but the physical control is what makes the game enjoyable for me,” added another.
One happy player remarked, “The graphics are great and the sound is fantastic, especially the song at the end. I enjoyed the game enough to play a second time to get the collectible I missed. I actually found a neat hidden secret thing I missed near the end, so that was cool.”
The free fun doesn’t have to end there.
I’ll take this as a chance to remind you that the next edition of Steam Next Fest kicks off very soon.
Running from 23 February to 2 March, the event will bring hundreds of new demos to the PC storefront, all of which will be free to enjoy.
Can you nab the bragging rights for unearthing the next big hit?
