Steam quietly drops 6 free games you most definitely missed

Huh, all six of these actually look really good

Another day, another list of free games on Steam, half of which I’m sure are terribl– oh, wait. All six of these look good for once? When’s the last time that happened?

Look, I can’t believe it either. Every time I write one of these Steam lists, at least a couple of the free games end up being rubbish.

But nope, apparently they’re all heaters today. That’s a nice surprise (for once).

As always, thank you in advance to the Free Steam Games Twitter account for collating all of the entries on this list!

Well, considering all of these are genuinely well-received, I’m not going to bother ranking them from worst to best today, so let’s just dive in.

First up, PyramidValley: Reborn from developer AstroParadox and AuthenTiiq.

This one is an ancient Egypt-themed city builder, and while the artstyle doesn't look like my cup of tea, the reviews are very positive. Looks like you can build a sick, fifty-storey pyramid too, so it gets points for that.

Next up, Ruby and The Lost Crystals from developer Ruby's Team and publisher SAE-Institute Geneva.

This one is a "calm" third-person puzzle game that looks like it's supposed to stretch your mind more than test your reflexes. Impressive work from what seems to be a team of students.

Here's a weird one: Flowtris, by developer Fábio Phillip Rocha Marques and publisher Physical Artifacts of Interaction Research Group.

So, this is just Tetris, except you’re also being tested during gameplay. The developer explains that it’s a tool they’ll use to evaluate “unique gaming experiences”. Hey, you get a free game, they get a free guinea pig. Win-win.

Hook, Line, and Axe is a very goofy but fun-looking parkour-focused hack and slash game from developer and publisher Triple AAA Games.

It’s giving me Bionic Commando vibes, and I mean that as a compliment. Don’t let the art style fool you.

Palette Cleanser is a 3D platformer from developer Team 1 and publisher Breda University of Applied Sciences.

The reviewers on Steam are very, very complimentary on this one. In fact, the worst thing about it is that apparently it’s too short, which is really a compliment in itself.

And finally, Smoke Break! is a 3D stealth game from developer Applewood Studios and publisher USC Games.

In this one, you play as a "living puff of smoke" named Applewood, who wants to hunt down a burnt pie. No idea what they're going with for the plot here, but the review score on this one should speak for itself.

And that’s the whole list! But don’t worry, there will be another one of these very soon.

Highly doubt the next list will be as good as this one, though.
