Resident Evil and Silent Hill fans could be in for a treat with this upcoming horror game, which might just be one of the most chilling experiences in years.
When it comes to nailing the survival horror formula, it doesn't get much better than Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Sure, Capcom and Konami haven't always got it right, but for the most part, we’ve been treated to a plethora of bangers over the years.
However, the survival horror genre isn't just about Resident Evil and Silent Hill, because the likes of Alien: Isolation, Dead Space, and Little Nightmares, have all given us plenty of tormenting nightmares as well.
If you’re looking for a new horror game with a seemingly strong narrative and chills to the bone, then the upcoming The Pines might be worth your consideration.
The Pines, developed and published by the indie developer Studio Abattoir, will have interesting gameplay mechanics such as dynamic stalkers, where a wrong word said to an NPC could result in you being harassed by that individual.

If this is the case, and a seemingly harmless NPC could be triggered into being your relentless stalker, depending on the choices you make, that sounds incredible and should make each playthrough different from the last. It will also have an RPG-inspired progression system to upgrade your abilities and whatnot.
“A psychological horror RPG where every choice has consequences. After a failed case, former detective Edward Walker arrives at The Pines, a secluded retreat with therapists on site and the promise of peace. But beneath its carefully constructed calm, something is deeply wrong,” reads its synopsis.

After watching the gameplay trailer, I have to say that The Pines also gives me major vibes of the Alan Wake series, with its mysterious town, cults and its very odd residents.
At the time of writing, The Pines is only listed for Steam and has no confirmed release date. Hopefully, that release date will drop soon, and we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for a console release too. In the meantime, be sure to add it to your Steam wishlist to be notified when its release date drops.
Oh, and before you go, The Pines is created by a solo developer, which is quite incredible, with this looking like a AAA game.
