PC Modders Rejoice, Huge Quality-Of-Life Update We've All Been Asking For Just Dropped

Steam users have been blessed with an excellent update for the Steam Workshop, making installing and using mods so much simpler.

Now Steam is known for a number of things and while those delectable, never-ending sales are a big part of its appeal I’ve personally always been a fan of the Steam Workshop.

It makes downloading, installing and playing a wide selection of mods both easier and safer, you’re not short of options as more and more get added every single day. NexusMods is a great alternative too if you’re interested.

Now Valve has updated the Steam Workshop with a hefty new feature that’ll make modding even simpler, and it’s one users have been requesting for a while now.

Rolling out soon are new Steam APIs and workshop options to ensure you’re kept up to date when the latest game updates hit.

Fallout is a good example of this, as is just about any Bethesda game. Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition should have been cause for celebration but it was overshadowed by thread after thread of complaints from players. The update ruined many users mod selections, leading to many lost save files and a lot of frustration.

This wasn’t something that could be easily fixed either, as it relied on the mods being updated or reverting your copy of Fallout 4 to a previous version, something only possible on PC so console users were out of luck if they had automatic updates turned on.

The new Steam Workshop aims to fix this, as it gives users more control over their game builds and should keep you up-to-date on which mods are compatible with certain game versions.

There’s a slight caveat of course, as the post that highlighted this new feature stated that it requires some transparency and organisation from both game developers and mod developers, so gamers know what will work and won’t when checking out the latest fan-made expansions. You can learn more in the full post.

I’m sure there’ll be a few teething issues like with most new features and practises but on the whole this is an excellent innovation for the Steam Workshop, and one that should positively impact its users going forward.

Modding is such a vital part of the gaming scene right now, as it keeps games fresh for the long-term and is a great way of showcasing the creativity and talent of their creators, so good on Steam for continuing to support it.
