Two of the most popular RPGs in recent years are Elden Ring and Starfield. However, both are very different experiences, to say the least, and one is looked upon more favourably than the other.

Released in 2022, Elden Ring developed by FromSoftware is a challenging mediaeval action RPG that has proven to be a delight for fans of Dark Souls and Bloodborne as well as welcoming a new legion of fans to its signature brand of brutality. Elden Ring quickly became regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time and fans are now eagerly awaiting the release of its massive expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree.

Check out the Underspace trailer below!

As for Starfield, this Bethesda-developed sci-fi RPG arrived just last year and was seen as a major Xbox exclusive but received a somewhat mixed reception. Whether Starfield lived up to its hype, at least from a fan's perspective, could depend on who you ask. That being said, if you like the idea of Fallout in space, then Starfield could be your cup of tea and it’s available on Xbox Game Pass at no extra cost.

Yet, what if we could blend the best elements from Elden Ring and Starfield, that would make for an epic intergalactic space adventure, right? One such game could be the upcoming Underspace developed by indie studio, Pastaspace Interactive, and published by Camlann Games. What’s more, you can play Underspace for free right now during its early access phase on the PC platform, Steam. Underspace also gives me vibes of Nintendo classic, Star Fox.

“Inspired by classic space games, Underspace is an open-world space arcade dogfighting game, where every star system is crafted by hand, and every star system has something to see or do. Jump into the bizarre galaxy of Croft, step into the role you want, and thrive alone or online with friends. But beware! The storms rule the stars,” reads the description on the Steam store.

“Be a miner picking through crystallized bones of ancient star beasts, a trader hauling artefacts to far-flung outposts, a pirate robbing space trains, an explorer combing through lost stellar cities, or a hunter chasing down unknowable monstrosities that spew forth from the storms. Brave violent weather, eldritch beasts, and the terrors of the unknown as you make your mark in the universe.”

Hopefully, Underspace will play as well as it looks judging by its gameplay trailer. Underspace has a PC release date of 10 April 2024, assuming that it suffers no delays. At the time of writing, there is no word of a console release.
