Steam users will soon be able to play a free demo for an upcoming open world RPG when it comes out later this month.
The Legend of Zelda-like RPG Edge of Memories has been announced to be getting a free demo later in June, where it should appeal to fans of Breath of the Wild and Final Fantasy.
Edge of Memories is the sequel to 2021’s Edge of Eternity, a massive open world RPG which blends both science fiction and fantasy tropes, by mixing together robots and magic.
The game was successful enough to spawn a sequel, Edge of Memories, which is launching sometime this year.

Ahead of the sequel’s release, though, players will be able to check out a taster of the upcoming RPG thanks to a demo release coming on 15 June.
“Get ready to experience the first chapter of Edge of Memories,” reads the blog post officially announcing the demo.
“Things pick up with our heroine Eline meeting Ysoris, a returning character from Edge of Eternity. From there, you'll get a taste of what our upcoming action RPG has to offer. Explore the world, meet its inhabitants and learn the basics of combat, triggering powerful attacks from your allies while building combos and dodging enemy abilities.”
Edge of Memories features “intense, real-time combat” where you must string together a series of combos by alternating between quick strikes and more powerful techniques which make quick work of your opponents.
Inflict enough damage and let rage consume you, which turns you into a powerful berserker which delivers even more earth-shattering attacks.
This is aided by your strong allies, where you can customise your companions, and use their abilities to dominate enemies on the battlefield.
The story blurb on Edge of Memories reads: “The Corrosion, a plague of unparalleled proportions, has already ravaged the Astryan continent. On the other side of the world, the continent of Avaris and its nomadic peoples—so far spared from the horrors spawned by this abomination—now stand on the brink of extinction.
“Eline, an itinerant Soul Whisperer, relentlessly battles the force that turns the once-thriving fauna, flora and humans of this lush land into grotesque abominations.

“Following a mysterious encounter, a dark power awakens within her, one that may hold the key to ending this apocalypse: the ability to control the Corrosion within her own body.
“But saving a world already doomed is no easy task. With the help of Ysoris, her unlikely mentor, and Kanta, shaman prince of a lost tribe, Eline must overcome the formidable adversaries standing in her way.”
Edge of Memories is developed by Midgar Studio, a company named after the fictional city of the same name which appears in Final Fantasy VII and related media, hence why there are some similarities between this game and the popular JRPG series by Square Enix.
You can download the demo for Edge of Memories from 15 June. A final release date for the game has not been announced yet, but we imagine we should hear more over the summer.
