Xbox Timed-Exclusive Remaster Finally Coming to PS5

A remaster from the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 days was bizarrely remastered as a timed-exclusive for Xbox, but now it finally looks to be heading to the PlayStation 5.
Timed-exclusives are just one of many cheeky business practises plaguing the game industry. Xbox players were waiting years before the Final Fantasy VII remakes finally started trickling onto their consoles from the PlayStation 4/5.
Xbox very rarely gets first dibs on games, but last year it got exclusive rights for a solid remaster of a stellar third-person shooter. It forced PlayStation users to wait their turn for a change.
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine- Master Crafted Edition was recently rated for both the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, suggesting both an announcement and release is dropping soon.
It’s a visual remaster of Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, which was published by SEGA back in 2011, and years later, it received a sequel published by Focus Entertainment.

The game follows the legendary Ultramarine Captain Titus, who bravely fends off an invasion of Orks whilst accidentally awakening an ancient evil.
Despite initially releasing on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the remaster was launched on Xbox Series X/S first. It was also a day-one Xbox Game Pass title for Ultimate subscribers.
Finally, the Master Crafted version is coming to other platforms. It’s just unfortunate that it’s landing on PlayStation 5 at possibly the worst time in the company’s history.

As far as third-person shooters go, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine is an excellent one. I played it back when it was on the Xbox 360 and it’s what briefly got me into the tabletop game.
Unfortunately, I fell off the grimdark train a year later but hopped back on for Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2, and am more invested than ever.
That’s the appeal of the Space Marine games though, they don’t require any prior knowledge or passion for the Warhammer 40k series.
Knowing the lore certainly enhances the experience but it’s not a requirement by any means. To a new player, it’s simply a thrilling shooter akin to Halo or Doom, where you play as a hulking supersoldier crushing xenos with your bare hands.
The Master Crafted edition is a serviceable remaster, too. Both the resolution and framerate are boosted but sadly, no new content is added. The online multiplayer also wasn’t resurrected, but Space Marine 2 is superior in that regard anyway.
Ultimately, I’m overjoyed that Warhammer 40k: Space Marine is finally going to be playable on the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
It certainly took longer than expected, but it’s better late than never. Hopefully, the third game won’t be tangled up in any similar form of exclusivity deal.
At the time of writing, a release date for the port hasn’t been announced, though it’ll likely be dropping sometime later this year.
