Long Forgotten PS4 Exclusive Has Players Calling For A Reboot

Bring it back, Sony.

PlayStation 4 gamers are calling for a reboot or sequel to an exclusive title that was released 10 years ago.

Last generation was particularly interesting in terms of what games were being prioritised on the early PS4 versus what came later.

Iconic modern PlayStation franchises such as Horizon, Spider-Man, and Ghost of Tsushima all came around towards the end of the PS4’s lifespan, with new entries in The Last of Us and God of War series also coming towards the end of the generation.

However, long-time PlayStation fans may remember that the early PS4 generation’s exclusives lineup was particularly different from the kinds of games Sony publishes now.

Early PS4 games included the 3D platformer Knack, the ambitious racing game Driveclub, and the open-world action game Infamous: Second Son.

There was also The Order: 1886, an action-adventure cover shooter released in 2015 by California-based studio Ready At Dawn.

The developer’s history with PlayStation goes back to developing God of War and Jak and Daxter spin-offs on the PSP, but The Order: 1886 was the company’s first attempt at an original IP.

The Order: 1886 was set in an alternate Steampunk Victorian London, and followed a secret order known as the Knights of the Round Table tasked with fighting monsters such as vampires and werewolves, as well as keeping order within the city.

However, despite the game having rather interesting cover-based shooting mechanics and impressive graphics for the time, it was a critical and commercial failure. No sequel was made, despite Ready At Dawn expressing interest in producing more entries.

The game is now ten years old this year, and fans have been calling for a reboot.

“I’m in the middle of playing it right now, and I have to say that this IP DESERVES a reboot!” reads one thread on a Reddit page devoted to The Order: 1886.

“This series could’ve been Sony's Gears of War,” reads another comment within the same thread.

“The game holds up perfectly, the graphics are beautiful, it was way ahead of its time, and I don't have a problem with the game mechanics either. Therefore, it doesn't need a reboot I think. What it needs and what we want is a sequel,” another comment reads.

“My two cents, a director's cut/remaster of the original right now would be great,” another fan recommends. “Fix a lot of what people didn’t like, improve performance, and even add a dlc of new missions. Get a new generation of gamers accustomed to the characters and world.”

Sadly, it doesn’t look like Sony is keen to bring back The Order for another game. The most acknowledgement the game has had in recent years is a bot based on the lead character, Sir Galahad, being added to Astro Bot in a post-launch update.

However, with Ready At Dawn having been shut down last year, plus Sony being busy making new games based on its popular IPs, I don’t see The Order: 1886 coming back for a second game or reboot any time soon.
