PlayStation 5 gamers treated to free download you don't need PS Plus for

And another free download is on the way next week, too

One very special PlayStation 5 title just received an equally special piece of free content last night, somehow making an incredible game even better.

Update 1.015 for Sony and Team ASOBI’s 2024 Game of the Year winner Astro Bot went live last night, bringing a new level, a new trophy, and some quality of life updates along with it.

As to be expected, Astro Bot’s new level Hard to Bear also features a guest appearance from one of Sony’s previous titles; Sir Galahad from The Order: 1886.

Now I know Astro Bot features some real niche cameos, like for instance Puppeteer's Kutaro and Concrete Genie's Ash, but I’m still surprised they stuck a The Order: 1886 one in. Honestly, I’m surprised they even remembered that game exists.

Unsurprisingly, everyone over on the r/PS5 subreddit is thrilled at the opportunity to jump back into some new Astro Bot content.

“sigh... *cracks open Astro Bot case again*... Just when I think I'm out,” commented user IconicNunb.

“I platinumed the base game and haven’t touched it since. Lowkey excited to jump back in with all the new levels,” replied user Imadeapromisemrfrodo.

“Hoping it’ll be a few more solid hours of gameplay.”

And the best part is, Team ASOBI still isn’t finished adding new stuff.

As revealed by Sony back in February on the PlayStation Blog, the Hard to Bear update is the fourth out of a total of five free updates planned for Astro Bot.

You won’t have to wait long for the final one either, as the Armored Hardcore update is set to drop on March 13. Probably no prizes in store for this guess, but I’d wager that the final update will drop some Armored Core-related freebies in too.

Hopefully this won’t be the last we’ve heard of Astro Bot either, so expect to hear some further news about new content after the Armored Hardcore update drops.
