Sony has just revealed a brand new piece of PlayStation 5 hardware, and fans already hate it.

Last night, Sony announced on the PlayStation Blog that a new limited edition PlayStation 5 DualSense controller based on the hit Naughty Dog franchise The Last of Us is set to go on sale in a weeks time.

“Created in close collaboration with the creative team at Naughty Dog, this striking design features glossy trophy icons printed across the surface that call back to key moments, characters, and events from The Last of Us Part I and The Last of Us Part II,” reads the press release.

“The Last of Us Limited Edition will be available in limited quantities for $84.99 / €84.99 / £74.99. Pre-orders start on March 14, 2025 at 10am local time…”

Now, for £75, personally I think it looks a bit rubbish - and it seems the fan base agrees, based on the comments in a thread over on the r/PS5 subreddit.

“It amazes me how they can do such cool work with the astrobot controller and the 30th anniversary one. And then you just have this,” commented user 1440pSupportPS5.

“This looks like some alibaba s**t lmao.”

“Underwhelming controller,” replied user ssk1996.

“I would’ve totally copped one if they put any effort into the design. This looks like a knock off skin that you’d find on Amazon.”

Look, I’m not in the business of being overly harsh for no reason, but I think these comments are spot on.

Those “glossy trophy icons printed across the surface” that Sony is touting don’t really give it a premium feel. It kind of just looks like a kid plastered a load of cheap stickers over a regular PS5 DualSense.

This controller costs £10 more than a regular DualSense, but I genuinely think I’d just prefer a standard controller over this one.

Or you know, you could just buy the 30th Anniversary DualSense instead. It’s cheaper, and it’s the coolest one they’ve ever made.
