The world continues to go mad for The Last of Us but one question remains: should there be a The Last of Us Part III?
Well, it seems as though the answer is pretty divisive.
Last week saw season two of HBO’s The Last of Us wrap up and with plans in place for a third and maybe even a fourth season, it seems as though we won’t be leaving the post-apocalyptic world anytime soon.

Well, at least its live-action iteration.
However, the video game series that it is based on has less concrete answers as, despite the success of The Last of Us Part I and The Last of Us Part II, fans are unsure if they can look forward to a third instalment.
With Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann giving out mixed messages over recent years, ranging from there being no plans for The Last of Us Part III to saying, “There is probably one more chapter to this story”, it is safe to say that we have been left feeling pretty confused.
That being said, a recent discussion over on r/thelastofus has revealed that a third entry may not be what every fan actually wants.

“I think we’ve gotta have Part 3 to close Ellie’s cycle for real (I know that Part 2 end could also be a 'fair' end to the game), but it’s not a definitive answer to our questions because we don’t know Ellie and Abby’s future,” user Fraperl shared.
“So I would really like to have Part 3 and then maybe a spin off like Lost Legacy set in Europe or other parts of the world to see what the global infection has done.”
However, for user Redditeer28, they think that the story has already come to a natural close.
“Honestly, I prefer open-ended endings,” their comment reads.

“Feels so real, like how many people have you known that you just lost contact with? You might constantly wonder what they're up to but you never see them again. Seeing Ellie leave her trauma behind and walk through the field into a new life ahead of her. It's a really nice ending for the character. Also if she's in Part 3 then she'll have a definitively horrible time, none of these games are good to our main characters and I don't know how much more I can watch her go through.”
Both users make valid points and now all that is left to do is wait to see what Naughty Dog has planned for the future of the beloved The Last of Us series.
