Could a familiar IP be making a return?

There’s just one episode left until The Last of Us’ second season draws to a close.

I’m very gutted about that as it doesn’t sound as if season three is set to begin filming until 2026.

It’s with that in mind that I’d be shocked if we saw the show return any earlier than 2027.

There is a silver lining though. Well, several actually.

Naughty Dog has already announced its next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

While a release date wasn’t confirmed, we do know that both Sony and Naughty Dog are far keener these days on announcing games much closer to their intended release dates.

As such, I wouldn’t be shocked if Intergalactic suddenly revealed a late 2026 release date although, of course, I could be wrong.

Additionally though, It’s now been revealed that the studio actually has a second project in the works.

You can view the trailer for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet below.

This secondary game has been rumoured for quite some time, but we now know the rumour to be true.

Shaun Escayg, of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy fame, is directing the secondary project.

Appearing on the Press X podcast, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann said, “There’s another game that’s being worked on at Naughty Dog where I’m more of a producer role and I get to mentor and watch this other team and give feedback, and be like the executive in the room.”

“I enjoy all of those roles,” he added. “And the fact that I jump between from one to the next, it makes my job always exciting and feeling fresh.”

What is this mystery second game? Well, that’s totally known.

I’m pretty confident it’s not The Last of Us Part III because there’s no way that Neil would only partake in that as a producer/mentor.

Could there be another new IP?

Personally, I’m more inclined to think we’re getting another Uncharted, although I can’t decide which characters I think it’ll centre around.

Putting out a new IP, like Intergalactic, is always risky; it makes sense that something reliable might be launched somewhat alongside that, like an Uncharted reboot.

I will continue my clowning belief that The Last of Us Part III is also in development.

I’ve written extensively as to why I think that’s the case, but I do think the game is several years out which is why we’re not hearing anything official on it.

Perhaps after Intergalactic is launched, efforts will shift over to Part III.

It’s already been teased that The Last of Us Part II will need another two TV seasons to finish adapting so as long as The Last of Us Part III launches in the next four years or so, I don’t think the TV show will catch up.

But I digress. Rumours claim that the Shaun Escayg project is three years into development although I’d urge you to take such rumours with a pinch of salt.

If this is true though and a reveal is on the cards soon, you best bet that we’ll bring the latest updates to you.
