Bearing in mind that they are an enormous company with about as much accountability as you'd expect in 2025, Sony seem to have been on quite a generous run in recent months for PlayStation players.
Though they obviously aren't strictly free, the game selections available as part of the PS Plus subscription have generally been very good, and varied enough to keep every type of player happy.
Those who buy a 12 month subscription can also pick up some additional goodies at the moment, including movie credits to spend on the Sony Pictures app, which comes at the perfect time of year, given how much everybody loves to sit down in front of the fire for a Christmas movie.
Now, the company has dropped a true freebie that should let you get your console looking perfect for the holiday season.

New PS5 Welcome Hub Animation Added
In the official section for PlayStation backgrounds, Sony have added a new animated Welcome Hub screen that really is perfect for a chilly Winter's evening, featuring snow covered trees with the famous PlayStation buttons logo in the centre.
That marks the second time they have added a fun and seasonally appropriate theme in the last few weeks, after Sony also released a cosy fireplace theme that so many on YouTube have already taken advantage of in lieu of an actual fire.

That theme also comes with some very soothing sound effects, including the signature crackle and subtle roar that's as close to the real thing as it's possible to get whilst looking at it on a screen.
They should also end up being a little bit more useful as time wears on, as Sony is currently testing implementing these when you leave the console idle for too long, as a low power way for the console to function.
Under a post sharing the news on PushSquare, fans were pretty pleased with the new ways to customise their console.
"Just in time for Christmas, perfect! But i wish we could have proper wallpapers without all the clutter in the way as it is right now," one comment read.
Sony may well continue to release some fun new tidbits for players and subscribers across the holiday season, so keep an eye on the various cosmetics menus to see if there are any new uploads ahead of the big day on the 25 December, as well as New Year's.
