A former PlayStation boss has suggested that gamers may want to think twice before upgrading to the PS6.
We all know that the PlayStation 6 is coming, long before any announcement from Sony. After all, long ago, Sony had already registered trademarks, not only for the PS6 but the consoles that would arrive in future generations beyond that.
Earlier this month, Sony revealed some juicy details regarding the PS6 hardware in a video with PlayStation architect Mark Cerny and AMD’s Jack Huynh. This later led to a speculative 2027 launch window.
It would be safe to assume that in terms of visual fidelity and processing power, the PlayStation 6 might be a beast, even compared to the PlayStation 5 Pro. However, according to a former Sony PlayStation boss, that might not be the case.

As reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, during an interview on the YouTube channel ‘Skill Up’, former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Shuhei Yoshida suggested that there might not be a massive leap in graphics and performance on the PS6.
“Graphics have almost hit the level that even I cannot tell the difference between some of the graphics capabilities, like ray-traced or not ray-traced, unless it’s side by side, or higher framerate,” he said.
“So, PlayStation clearly, in my mind, cannot do the same thing they have been doing, increasing the graphics power and providing the high-end experiences. They might just do that, but still, that feels like a niche audience right now.”

What will the PlayStation 6 bring to the table?
At this time, other than having increased visuals and performance, it’s too early to tell. No doubt the PlayStation 6 will have some fancy features that previous consoles did not have.

More importantly, it needs more high-quality first-party console exclusives that can’t be played anywhere else. Don't get me wrong, the PlayStation 5 has some fantastic exclusives, but in terms of quantity, it’s lagging behind the PlayStation 4.
That being said, there’s a lot of truth behind the saying “quality over quantity”. Hopefully, we’ll get a nice balance somewhere in between when the PlayStation 6 eventually arrives.
I suppose there’s a decent chance that we might get the conclusion to the Marvel's Spider-Man trilogy, perhaps even The Last of Us Part III and Horizon 3. Speaking of Horizon, I’d love Guerrilla Games to give us a new Killzone title. Wishful thinking, I know.
When we learn anything new on the PlayStation 6, we’ll be sure to update you right away.
