The PlayStation 6 is still some way off, but that hasn’t stopped many in the industry, and fans alike, from looking towards the horizon of the next generation of consoles.
As we near the end of the lifecycle of the PlayStation 5, game developers are already hard at work on the games that will appear on Sony’s next console.
One of these companies is CD Projekt RED, who recently confirmed that the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 has entered pre-production.

Now, if you take into account that the average CD Projekt RED game takes around five years to complete, as pointed out by ComicBook, then it would guarantee the sequel will arrive on the PlayStation 6, likely skipping this current generation completely.
Sure, we probably won’t see anything of the game for a few years, and the release could be as far off as 2029, or even 2030, but it’s exciting to know that it’s currently being worked on in Poland.
The studio is hard at work on The Witcher 4, which will take precedent for some time, and only once that has shipped will the team pivot to focus on the next Cyberpunk adventure fully.
This is all speculation on the part of everyone, for all we know, it could arrive sooner, and we don’t even know anything solid about the PlayStation 6 either.

Sony, and their rivals Microsoft, have been tight-lipped on the future of both brands, but follow-up consoles are pretty much certain given that the popularity of gaming is still on the rise.
The next few years will see plenty of leaks and rumours, slowly building to the eventual unveiling of each system and the games that will showcase the next generation of technology.
You can bet that AAA developers are already planning big things for the future, and a company like CD Projekt RED will be leading the pack.
