Our favourite blue hedgehog will soon be taking to the track in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and ahead of its full launch later this month, some players can already get stuck in.

Developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a spin-off of the Sonic series and boasts a brand-new ‘CrossWorlds’ feature which will allow players to teleport to other tracks whilst in the middle of a race.

Much like its predecessor Team Sonic Racing which was released back in 2019, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will see players race up to 11 other people in three-lap races around various tracks.

However, CrossWorlds will not feature Team Sonic Racing’s cooperative team racing mechanic.

Instead, it will star 24 different race tracks with the ability to use ‘travel rings’ to send racers to a whole new world. Whilst here, players will be able to make use of “frenzy” modifiers which can cause additional effects such as speed boosts to get them to the finish line even quicker.

“Race across land, sea, air, space, and time in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds! Warp through Travel Rings into new dimensions where something new awaits around every twist and turn,” the official synopsis reads.

Either solo or with friends, you will be able to compete against players from all over the world as you build your ultimate vehicle, unlock gadgets and unleash power-up items to bring that win home.

Choose from 23 iconic Sonic characters, 45 unique vehicles, and 70 different gadgets as you take to the tracks and drift past the opposition.

As mentioned, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set to release on 25 September for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC with a Nintendo Switch 2 port planned for a later date.

However, you can get stuck into the action already courtesy of a free, single-player demo arriving on Wednesday 17 September.

This will allow players to get a taste of the brand-new racing game ahead of its release but bear in mind that you will not be able to team up with friends until then.

So, if you are a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario Kart or just racing games in general, then you may want to keep an eye out on Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds which is set to release on 25 September.
