Sony PlayStation and other platforms are issuing refunds for a remaster of a beloved RPG that was recently delayed following fan backlash.
In 2000, on PC, a revolutionary sci-fi RPG arrived with Deus Ex, developed by the now-defunct Ion Storm, which was co-founded by the co-creator of DOOM and Wolfenstein, John Romero.
At the time, there really wasn't anything like Deus Ex. Sure, there would have been plenty of other fantastic sci-fi RPGs when it launched, but in terms of being a first-person adventure where your decision can make a big impact on the story, this was one of one.
Deus Ex Inspired Generations!
In many ways, Deus Ex helped inspire the likes of CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 and much more. Deus Ex was kind of like Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner of video games, with its importance to the industry.
Deus Ex would later spawn three fantastic sequels with Deus Ex: Invisible War (Ion Storm), Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Eidos-Montréal) and finally, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (Eidos-Montréal). Sadly for fans of the series, the last game was released nearly a decade ago in 2016 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Advert
It’s fair to say that a new game in the Deus Ex series is long overdue. So, imagine the excitement when a remaster of the original game from 2000 was announced in September 2025. It should have been a joyous occasion for fans, right? Sadly, that was not the case.

The Remaster is Delayed, and Refunds are Issued
In a nutshell, some fans thought that this remaster, handled by Aspyr Media, looked awful. Recently, Deus Ex Remastered was delayed following a negative reception from fans.
“When companies start refunding money, you know this ain’t going to end well,” said Redditor Soulsliken.
“I'm convinced that the Deus Ex series is cursed,” exclaimed MuptonBossman.
“Sucks it wasn’t a better remaster. I love the Deus Ex games. Still play Mankind Divided occasionally,” replied Worldatmyfingertipss.
“It really did look like ass to be honest,” declared AffectionateAide9644.
Following the delay and refund of Deus Ex Remastered, Aspyr Media has released a statement. Anyone who has paid for a pre-order will receive a refund automatically. However, it also no longer has a release date.
“Thank you to the community for your feedback following the reveal of Deus Ex Remastered,” it said in a post. “We've listened to what you said, and in order to better meet fan expectations and deliver the best possible experience for players, Deus Ex Remastered will no longer launch on 5 February 2026.”
When or if Deus Ex Remastered sees the light of day, it will be released on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
