Up until now, the PlayStation 4 has been just as popular as the bigger and better PlayStation 5.

However, according to a recent comment by Sony, it seems as though it is finally time to say goodbye to the console.

Check out the newest PlayStation console, the PS5 Pro, below!

First launched back in 2013, the PlayStation 4 has had quite a run but when Sony released the PlayStation 5 in 2020, it wasn’t long before the 4 gradually got left behind.

That being said, the PlayStation Plus service has still been an advocate for PS4 games and has regularly featured them as part of its monthly selection of games.

However, according to a recent statement by Sony, it will slowly phase out PS4 games in favour of focusing on PlayStation 5 titles.

More specifically, from January 2026 onwards, PlayStation will focus on offering PS5 titles for the Monthly Games and Game Catalog for PS Plus members.

Of course, this does not mean that a PS4 title will never be included, but it will be a lot less of a regular occurrence.

With Sony having recently released the PS5 Pro, it is officially the era of its newest console so it does make sense that the PS4’s time has come to an end.

However, not every user feels the same and a discussion recently kicked off over on r/PlayStationPlus.

“A reminder that PS4 users can add PS5 games to their library through the PS App so they'll be available when/if you upgrade to a PS5,” one user shared as a helpful tip.

HibernianMetropolis supported Sony’s decision when they said, “I don't think PS4 owners can really complain, almost unheard of for an old console to be supported so well for so long after a new console release.”

However, Less_Hedgehog thinks differently.

“Oh noooo. I don't know if I'll ever get a PS5 frankly,” they shared.

“I know I'm emotional because I have a PS4 and I know PS5 users will just say 'about time'. But I pay for PS+ Extra. There are hundreds of games for the PS4 that I can play and I'm not really going to run out. There's such a huge backlog and that's what appeals to me about PS+. Focusing on the limited amount of PS5 games removes the value of the subscription. And I have no other choice than to buy from Sony with a PS4.”
