PlayStation Plus users confused by free download they weren't expecting

A surprise gift may await you

PlayStation gamers have been surprised with a gift they weren't expecting courtesy of a Sony rewards scheme and promotion.

PlayStation Stars launched in 2022 and is a rewards scheme that gives players points for playing select video games (usually related to PS Plus), earning certain in-game trophies or simply making purchases via the PlayStation Store.

Check out the PlayStation Stars trailer below!

You can also claim digital collectables to proudly display on your profile with the PlayStation mobile app. You can even claim from a selection of free video games which currently include Rise of the Ronin, Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade and more with enough points.

In our review of Rise of the Ronin, we said it “has some incredibly enjoyable peaks but so too does it feature some annoying pitfalls - making for an experience that may be jarring in comparison to other perfectly polished PlayStation exclusives.”

Best of all, you can also pick up £5 or £20 PlayStation Store credit vouchers to spend how you please. It might take you a while to accumulate enough points to purchase a major AAA game or £20 credit, but with a little patience and persistence, you will get there eventually.

That being said, PlayStation gamers were surprised with a free digital PS Stars collectable like an RKO out of nowhere. The collectable in question is the ‘Days of Play’ trophy.

“Sony just gifted me a reward for the Days of Play Cup, what is it?” asked andres2002. “It just says 'Playstation Tournament: Days of Play Cup'. What is it? I accepted it but I can't find anything!”

As fellow members of the thread explained, to be awarded this trophy, you simply have to play any game on PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4. That’s it, there’s literally no other criteria other than playing a video game during Sony’s recent Days of Play promotion.

It’s nothing to get overly excited about, but if you’re a digital collectable completionist on PlayStation, then I’m sure it’s still a nice little surprise nonetheless. Be sure to keep tabs on PS Stars in the PlayStation mobile app because it regularly updates its reward campaigns.
