With all of the major console retailers now offering subscriptions services that offer a variety of benefits to players, the race has been on for some time to establish who can put together the most compelling overall package.
Game Pass comes with some controversies of its own, but it's difficult to deny the value on offer to Xbox and PC players, particularly with access to day one releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
On the other side of that argument is Sony's PlayStation Plus, which brings players a monthly selection of free games, as well as a catalogue of older games, with the games on offer increasing with each subscription tier.
Outside of that, one of the coolest available features allows players to upgrade their PS4 games to PS5 remakes and remasters if there is one available, often for no additional cost.

It's a little more complicated than that though, as one player on Reddit found out with their copy of Spider-Man. They asked, "Deleted the game from storage, downloaded ps+ version, restored licence, but it still asks for the ps4 disc? Can you play digitally or do I have to always use the disc version?"
After upgrading to Spider-Man Remastered using their PS4 disc of the original version, they were unable to play the digital upgrade without the disc remaining in the console. The reason for this is that the license for remastered games is tied to the original disc, so the game needs access to that in order to verify the upgrade.
It remains one of the most annoying drawbacks of the current system, but it's actually possible for it to get even worse than that.
If you purchased additional content for your PS4 disc game and then subsequently upgrade to a PS5 remake or remaster, the licence for that overwrites the original, and you will lose access to your original content.

That said, it's still a great service that you should consider subscribing to if you're a PlayStation player, purely based on the value of free games available.
