PlayStation Plus will continue to increase its tier pricing as time goes on, meaning you’ll need to spend more to play online on PlayStation as well as have access to its increasingly large roster of games at no additional cost.
Currently the tiers for PlayStation Plus are Essential, Extra and Premium, with Extra in my opinion being the best of the three unless you can get Premium on the cheap.
Pricing for PlayStation’s subscription service has varied as time goes on and it now sounds like it’ll go up even further, prompting discourse and outrage from fans.

In a recent presentation Sony CEO Hideaki Nishino said “Subscribers are increasingly choosing our Premium and Extra tiers, which now represent approximately 38% of total subscribers”
He continued “The PlayStation Plus service offers great value for our players, and we will continue to add more value and adjust our pricing strategy in a dynamic way to maximise profitability.”
This means it’s highly likely another price increase is on the way, at least for the Extra and Premium tiers which as Sony pointed out are where most subscribers tend to sit.
As you can imagine fans aren’t best pleased with the idea of having to spend more money, and have been discussing it online.

“Honestly they just need to get rid of the premium and make the classics available to the 2nd tier. Having three tiers is just stupid” suggested one unhappy fan, but others pointed out that it wouldn’t make sense from a business perspective to scrap its most expensive subscription tier.
“They funnel people into higher tiers by discounting the higher tiers only” added another, “offering promotions to get people to upgrade and giving offers at renewal to prevent people from downgrading. I don’t believe people are overwhelmingly rejecting Essential and I will happily revert back to Essential if the offers stop coming.”
It sucks but it just seems to be the way the video game industry works nowadays, there’s a subscription for everything. Only way to change that is to stop subscribing.
