Long forgotten PS3 classic added to PlayStation Plus library

PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers just got an all-time classic shooter from the PS3 era added to the service.

Subscribers to the Premium tier of Sony’s PlayStation Plus service are regularly treated to a selection of classic games spanning the console’s 30-year history.

With all-time bangers like TimeSplitters, MediEvil, and Ape Escape gracing the platform, there’s a little something for everyone interested in retro gaming on their modern PlayStation consoles.

If you're curious about how PlayStation Plus Premium streaming works, check out the below video.

It even has games that were first released on PS3, such as Fallout 3 and Red Dead Redemption, but only available via cloud streaming.

It’s an ideal service for anyone who grew up with these classics, or younger gamers who want to discover PlayStation’s IP-rich history.

Now, PlayStation Plus Premium has added a classic FPS from the PS3 (as well as its sequel) that is almost two decades old.

Originally released in 2006 as a PS3 launch title, Resistance: Fall of Man was developed by Insomniac Games. Yes, that Insomniac Games.

Set in an alternate history where aliens have taken over most of Europe, players are tasked with repelling the invaders from the occupied United Kingdom and freeing the country from extra-terrestrial control.

Resistance ended up selling over 2 million copies and was featured as one of the best games of the year by publications like IGN and Game Informer. Naturally, this meant a sequel came out two years later.

Over the next few years, the Resistance series gained a few more sequels, including exclusives on the PSP and Vita, before being quietly retired after the mixed reviews of Burning Skies in 2012.

Resistance is also being joined by Resistance 2 on PlayStation Plus, which now means the entire trilogy of PS3 games is now available on the service, along with the PSP-exclusive Resistance: Retribution.

Whether or not we’ll ever see a revival of the Resistance series remains to be seen. With Insomniac currently busy with multiple Marvel projects, including Spider-Man 3 and Wolverine, it’s likely a new entry would be helmed by a different studio entirely.
