Although many of us primarily use our PlayStation consoles to play games, it is often easy to forget that they are capable of so much more.

That includes watching a whole lot of films.

Whether you use physical DVDs or not, watching movies on your PlayStation 5 is pretty common but did you know that there is a way to get access to hundreds of movies in a feature you probably missed?

Not sure whether to grab PS Plus or not? Check out one of its tier options below!

Courtesy of Sony Core, PS5 users can gain access to plenty of movies and television shows for free, with even more being on offer for those with a PlayStation Plus subscription.

The video-on-demand service, which was once known as Bravia Core, allows users to stream Sony movies and TV shows and “offers cinema-quality features” and “access to a large library of titles”.

Available to download through the media section of your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, Sony Core is a must-have for any movie fan.

We were reminded about this often overlooked feature courtesy of one user over on r/PS5 who shared the news about it over the weekend.

“I just found out about Sony Core on the PS and there's a lot of great free movies and shows, especially if you have PS Plus,” they shared.

“I was reading about high quality streaming for 4k and many people were talking about Bravia Core.

Well you can download it on your PS and get some added benefits. Also, the free IMAX-enhanced movie of the month is District 9!”

It was not long before the comments came flooding in but it would seem as though Sony Core can be a bit hit-or-miss.

“Unless this is a second Sony video service tied to PS+, I was not very impressed with the selection when I tried it a month or two ago,” user wolfgang784 wrote.

“Like 80% of the movies were older than I am (I'm 30) and nothing I would consider watching was included with my PS+ Extra/Premium.”

Furthermore, Sony Core is not available for some regions so it would seem as though this feature is not ideal for many users.

Either way, it could be worth checking out in the future with new movies and television shows being added each month.
