PlayStation Plus Gamers Warned Not to Download New Free Game

You may want to wait a little while

PlayStation Plus users have issued an urgent warning to fellow subscribers.

The Rogue Prince of Persia recently landed on PlayStation Plus’ extra tier catalogue as a surprise day one drop.

This side-scrolling roguelite sees players step into the unnamed shoes of ‘the Prince’ who’s tasked with fixing his mistakes after triggering an invasion of the Persian capital city by an army of Huns corrupted by dark magic.

By all accounts, it’s a very good game as reflected by its Metacritic score of 81; I’ve not yet tried it myself so I can’t provide a personal review.

Regardless, PlayStation Plus users are being told that it may be best to hold off on trying the title due to a game-breaking issue.

The alarm was first raised by Reddit user Emotional_Spray_6716.

“Consider holding off on Rogue Prince of Persia [..] I love this game, enough to start over when my save file got wiped the first time. But I don't know if I want to start over again now that it's wiped a second time in less than 24 hours,” they wrote.

“The game uses an autosave system, and uploads your save data to the cloud. I always made sure to close the app after it auto saved. Uploading my cloud save data to the console still left me with a blank save file. Looking online, this bug is happening on all consoles and PC. If you're thinking of downloading the game, it might be worth it to hold off until Evil Empire fixes this issue.”

“Every time I start the game it tells me there was a sync error between my saves on PS5 and the cloud ugh. So I always choose to go with my PS5 save. There are several other issues with the game as well. I’m staying away for a few months until some updates come,” added Yellow2345.

From what I can see, you might be able to avoid this issue by making use of a local save file rather than one that’s cloud based. It seems the game gives you this option, so that is a potential workaround.

Still, players should be able to use cloud save without having to worry about their progress being totally wiped.

For balance, there are some players who say they’ve completed the game without issue but so is the nature of bugs; they surface for some and for others they don’t.

As for what Evil Empire is doing about this, the team does seem to be beavering away on fixes.

Yesterday, it deployed a hefty patch on Steam fixing plenty of issues, but nothing has yet arisen for console versions of the title, so just beware.
