PlayStation Plus subscribers are being warned to not sleep on an AA game that got nowhere near the credit it deserved.
I don’t know how many people would agree with this but it feels like nowadays video games live or die from word-of-mouth alone.
Look at Hollow Knight: Silksong for instance. There was already a large fanbase from Hollow Knight waiting for the sequel but due to there being that much hype around the game’s long-awaited release date it got players who’d never cared for the first game excited to play it.
Equally though if there’s no one talking about a game there’s a good chance it’ll slip under the radar for most of its life, like Evil West.

Evil West was developed by Flying Wild Hog and published by Focus Entertainment, the same publisher behind Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2.
Its description reads: “A dark menace consumes the Old West. In solo or coop, fight with style in visceral, explosive combat against bloodthirsty monstrosities. Eradicate the vampiric hordes with your lightning-fueled gauntlet and become a Wild West Superhero.”
It’s not a masterpiece by any means but it’s a lot of fun, but unfortunately the majority of players will have likely never heard of it. This is where PlayStation Plus comes in handy.
PlayStation Plus subscriber and Reddit user Tolsey found the game in the Extra catalogue and shared it online, saying “I think this game got hated on too much.”

While commenters were confused where the word “hate” came from, many did agree that the game was severely overlooked and deserved better.
“I don’t think it got any hate. It was just ok for a lot of people. Pretty fun game. It’s basically a steam-punk God Of War” read one comment.
“Solid 9 out of 10 from me,” said another before adding “one of the better AA games I've played.”
Finally one comment said they’d “never heard of this game or the hate, but this gameplay looks sick.”

Despite its flaws this is why I have a lot of time for gaming subscription services like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, as it gives games that didn’t get recognised their time in the sun, without the fear of regretting your purchase later on.
If you’re interested in checking out Evil West you can do so with an active subscription to PlayStation Plus Extra or PlayStation Plus Premium.
