If you’re looking at your long-list of PlayStation Plus games and wondering which one to play next, let us point you in the right direction.

For fans of massive open-world games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, there are plenty to choose from, and many exceed the Bethesda game in size and scale.

Skyrim is still a masterpiece though, there’s no denying that

Skyrim’s world map clocks in at around 15 square miles of open space, and if you walk from one side of the map to the other it’ll take you around 30 minutes or so of real-time.

That’s impressive, but Assassin’s Creed Odyssey ruthlessly surpasses it thanks to its more modern technology, and it’s free on PlayStation Plus right now.

There’s no better time to play it either, since Ubisoft’s next open-world title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was unexpectedly delayed to 2025.

Either way Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is still a fine game, and it'd probably be my favourite if Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag didn’t exist as exploring the gorgeous islands of Ancient Greece was and still is remarkable.

Back to the comparison with Skyrim, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey boasts a map size of 50 square miles, and navigating from one side of the map to the other would probably take you about 45 minutes to an hour, maybe longer.

It’s not the most fair comparison, as there are about seven years and an entire console generation between the two games, but if you like open-world adventures Odyssey is definitely one to play after Skyrim.

PlayStation Plus Extra or higher subscribers will be able to play the game at no additional cost, though DLC won’t be included.

Again there’s no better time to jump in, as Assassin’s Creed fans have a little bit longer to wait before Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and Skyrim fans have a lifetime to wait before The Elder Scrolls VI.
