If you’re in need of something new to play, I have the perfect recommendation for those of you who enjoy open-world titles.

PlayStation Plus’ extra tier catalogue is home to a Ubisoft game by the name of Watch Dogs 2, which is a must-play for fans of the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

I’m sure there are plenty of you who already know the ins and outs of Watch Dogs 2.

If you don’t, this 2016 action-adventure title sees players assume control of Marcus Holloway, a hacker for a group known as DedSec.

Played from a third-person perspective, it’s up to you to try and take down an advanced surveillance system known as ctOS in a fictionalised version of San Francisco.

You don’t have to do so completely alone as the game supports co-operative multiplayer, plus there’s great replayability as there are multiple different ways you can approach the game’s key missions.

Gameplay consists of hacking, as I mentioned, which sees you partake in plenty of stealth.

There’s also parkour, and Marcus is equipped with melee weapons for when things go south.

Upon release, Watch Dogs 2 scored a very respectable 82 over on Metacritic.

TheSixthAxis awarded a score of 90, writing, “Watch Dogs 2 is the perfect sequel. It takes everything that made the first game unique and original, and expands on all of it. Everything is better, from the hacking, to the story, the setting and the variety of content.”

They continued, “Watch Dogs 2 is far from being just more of the same. An apt comparison could be the jump from the first Assassins Creed game to Assassins Creed 2. While the first was a promising yet clunky new idea, the sequel delivered on that idea and turned it into one of the most iconic series of the last decade. With Watch Dogs 2, Ubisoft is well on its way to recreating that same magic.”

That prompts an interesting question: do you need to have played the original Watch Dogs?

I’d say no. As always, you’ll benefit from having played the first game, which is also included on the extra tier, but the two instalments feature different protagonists.

This recommendation came about after Reddit user Fun_awareness4928 sought out “a good open world game [...] besides the very well known ones like Ghost of Tsushima and Witcher 3”.

“Watch Dogs 2 has a much better open world than I was expecting. I barely played the first or third one, but I am enjoying my time with 2,” replied I_am_not_a_murderer.

“2 was actually awesome. Got the platinum in that one. You just have to not take it seriously. It's like the Saints Row of its own series,” added Adventurous_Doubt.

“That's the best way of explaining it,” said ThiccLesion.

According to HowLongToBeat, it should take you just under 20 hours to finish the main story, or just over 30 hours to see side content too.

Plenty to keep you busy for the next couple of weeks.
