One of the best PlayStation 5 games of 2021 is currently included as part of your PlayStation Plus subscription, and it seems subscribers have only just noticed.

Insomniac Games do not miss. Honestly, that’s not even hyperbole at this point, because I’m struggling to think of a game they’ve put out in the last 10 years that wasn’t an absolute heater.

While they might be best known to the younger generation as the team behind Marvel’s Spider-Man, today’s example harkens back to one of the franchises that earned the studio its stellar reputation: Ratchet & Clank.

Thankfully, if you’ve never delved into the Ratchet & Clank catalogue, one of its best entries is currently available through PlayStation Plus Extra.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart released back in 2021 to wall-to-wall perfect reviews, and you only need about 30 minutes with it to find out why.

It seems folks over on the r/PS5 subreddit have only just gotten around to playing this one though, based on the glowing reviews in the comment section.

“It's an absolutely joy filled ride the whole way through that imo, does not overstay its welcome,” commented user MakimaToga.

“It's the kind of game I grew up on, a no frills platformer with pretty straightforward design goals, great character design, and a fun lighthearted atmosphere. Also the loading tech behind the portals is absolutely insane.”

“It’s like playing a Pixar movie. The graphics are gorgeous and the gameplay is so fun,” replied user doc_birdman.

“The entire opening sequence I had the biggest smile on my face. First time a video game had me feeling like a kid again in a very long time. 10/10 gaming experience.”

Honestly, I only have two problems with this game.

One, it’s slightly too short. That isn’t to say it’s a short game as such, but rather that I had so much fun with it that I wished it lasted a little longer.

Secondly… man, it was so good, I kind of wish Insomniac Games were free to just keep cranking out more Ratchet & Clank games.
