PlayStation Plus, like other video game subscription services, is expensive, especially when you’re subscribing to one of the higher tiers.
For lack of a better word though it’s essential, as so many games nowadays are either required or improved with online play. Many games are also added to subscriptions like PlayStation Plus as soon as they’re released too, so there’s plenty of value to be had in them.
They are pricey though, which is why it’s good that some games don’t require PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass to access them, such as Fortnite for example.

It means more players can get involved and when games like Fortnite are free-to-play anyway there’s no sense in forcing players to subscribe.
More and more games are changing how they handle online play too, and later this year GTA V: Online will be doing the same.
On 1 July the requirement for PlayStation Plus will be lifted so if you’re not subscribed you’ll still be able to jump online and play with others. The only caveat is it’s not a permanent change, it’ll only last for 10 days.
Nevertheless fans are pleased and hope it becomes a permanent feature one day, unlikely though as GTA V: Online is still very popular in 2025 so PlayStation will of course want to keep capitalising off it.

Still, fans were happy. One said they think the change is “pretty dope” and another added that “online shouldn't be locked behind plus,” hard to not agree there.
Others felt like they were committing some sort of crime getting free access, like one that said “for 10 whole days? That's too much of a blessing. Feels like I'm stealing.”
So from 1 July onwards you’ll be able to jump into GTA V: Online without needing an active subscription, only for 10 days.
