In just a few days time, PlayStation will celebrate its 30th anniversary - although we’re yet to discover exactly how that’ll unfold.

You see, celebrations are already underway but that doesn’t mean that the full extent of the company’s plans have been unveiled.

Many are hoping a PlayStation Showcase might be announced for 3 December, the actual day of the anniversary.

That’s simply a wish though, there’s no official indication that it’ll happen.

There’s plenty to get involved with elsewhere, even if you did miss out on the 30th anniversary editions of the PS5 and PS5 Pro.

For example, everybody can soon partake in a free PlayStation Plus online multiplayer weekend which has just been announced.

During the event, you’ll be able to play multiplayer games online without the need for a PlayStation Plus subscription, as long as you have a PSN account.

What game will you be diving into? Perhaps Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the one for you.

The event will run from 6 to 8 December, so you’ve got a bit of time to plan ahead and line up any games you want to have a go at.

At the same time, Sony teased some upcoming additions to PlayStation Plus - although these will be joining the premium tier and therefore are unrelated to the free online weekend.

Premium subscribers can look forward to soon getting their hands on Jak and Daxter, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves.

A game trial of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine II is also due to land on the service.

We should find out the full extra and premium tier drop for December in a few weeks.

In the meantime, December’s essential tier offerings have been unveiled with users able to enjoy It Takes Two, Aliens: Dark Descent, and Temtem.

But to reiterate, that free online multiplayer weekend kicks off on 6 December, so stick the date in your diary.
