PlayStation Plus first free game for September is a AAA open-world gem

PlayStation Plus' first free game for September has been confirmed by an old friend, and it looks like we can expect a AAA open-world adventure.

Before that, let's take a look at what Essential tier subscribers can currently grab in August: PGA Tour 2K23, Dreams, and Death’s Door. A fine bunch.

Extra and Premium tier subscribers, meanwhile, were brought a further 17 games in August, including Moving Out 2, Lost Judgement, and Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. PlayStation Plus will also being getting indie RPG Sea of Stars on 29 August, and we're all very excited for that.

Anyway, take a look at September 2023's first confirmed free game below!

September's first game is none other than the Saints Row reboot, according to notable leaker billbil-kun. While this leaker has been away from leaking PlayStation Plus news for a while, there was a year-long period where they were able to predict the lineup with 100 percent accuracy.

It's also worth noting that billbil-kun currently won't say what the other two games for September are since they can't be properly sure they're right yet, which suggests a degree of confidence in Saints Row as one of the titles. Basically, it's definitely Saints Row.

Honestly, this could just be a perfect PlayStation Plus game. A fun, mindless open world that nobody really bothered to check out at the time? That's exactly what we want from a free game, although it's worth noting most of us will probably be busy with Starfield and Baldur's Gate 3 next month.

Still, if you don't fancy an RPG and would rather eat some open-world junk food (I mean that in the nicest way), Saints Row could be right up your alley. Expect an official announcement from Sony this week. That's if billbil-kun doesn't drop the other two games before then, anyway.
