PlayStation Plus drops major new bonus freebie for subscribers

PlayStation Plus drops major new bonus freebie for subscribers

Sony has just dropped Sony Pictures Core, granting PlayStation Plus premium subscribers access to a huge library of films.

Well, this is a pleasant surprise. Out of nowhere, Sony just announced that Sony Pictures Core (formerly Bravia Core) is coming to PlayStation 4 and 5 today - and it will include a major perk for PlayStation Plus premium tier subscribers.

Sony Pictures Core is an entertainment app that gives PlayStation players access to ‘exclusive benefits’ as well as ‘early access to select Sony Pictures films’. All PlayStation users will be able to sign up, where they’ll then have the option to buy or rent up to 2,000 films. This includes major Sony hits like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Uncharted, The Equalizer, No Hard Feelings, Bullet Train, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife. But Kate, you said free PlayStation Plus benefits too? I hear you. I did, and it’s true - PlayStation Plus premium tier subscribers will gain free access to a curated catalogue of films.

Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story is one such film available on the platform (in selected territories).

The PlayStation Plus premium film catalogue is made up of around 100 films. Access to this is automatically included in your PS Plus premium subscription. You just need to sign up to Sony Pictures Core too. You can stream these films anytime - and thankfully, the catalogue is ad-free. We don’t have the full line-up just yet - and the line-up will “periodically” update - but we do know that it’ll feature Looper, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, Elysium, and Resident Evil Damnation.

That’s not all. Over on the PlayStation blog, it was teased that there “will be additional benefits for all PlayStation Plus members,” so you won’t be left out my extra and essential tier friends. Unfortunately, we don’t know what those benefits are yet. The blog instructs extra and essential subscribers to “stay tuned for more details”.

In the future, Sony plans to add a “selection of hit anime content from Crunchyroll” too. As I said, the app is available in 23 territories now, and you can purchase/rent Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story via early access in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand with more markets to follow. If you do, you’ll receive a credit voucher towards an in-game purchase in Gran Turismo 7. Freebies all around.
