PlayStation Plus users shouldn’t sleep on one of the best sci-fi shooters of the last decade, even if at first glance it’s not your cup of tea.
The quality of PlayStation Plus’ monthly offering varies but March’s line-up is pretty good if we do say so ourselves.
This month’s Extra additions are:
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (PS5)
Advert
Persona 5 Royal (PS5 | PS4)
Personal 5 Royal Ultimate Edition (PS4)
Madden NFL 26 (PS5)
Metal Eden (PS5)
The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria (PS5)
Astroneer (PS4)
Blasphemous 2 (PS5, PS4)
Persona 5 Royal is the standout addition to this list and if you haven’t played it yet you really should. It’s a lengthy turn-based RPG but arguably one of the greatest games ever made, and the perfect entry point to the Persona series.
However the topic of this article is a shooter, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.
If the sight of Warhammer instantly turns you off the idea of giving this one a go please reconsider. Like Persona 5 Royal this is an excellent starting point if you’re looking to get into the Warhammer 40k series, and if you’re not it’s simply a solid third-person shooter you can either play alone or with friends.
The story follows the former Ultramarine captain, Titus, who after being accused of heresy was condemned to the Deathwatch. These are basically suicide squads deployed onto hostile planets to undergo impossible tasks, essentially one last chance of redemption following what “crime” they committed to get there.

After having the mark of heresy obscured by his Chapter and brought back into the company of his battle brothers, Titus finds himself on the frontlines against the hive-mind of Tyranids, with more powerful, chaotic, forces at play in the background.
The story mode revolves solely around Titus but there are also PvE missions you can play as your very own custom space marine.
Developer Saber Interactive did a wonderful job of displaying the sheer power these space marines are capable of exhibiting. Space Marine 2 is a game that encourages you to dive head-first into a horde of enemies, cutting them down at awesome speed and then rewarded with gruesome takedown animations.
The threat-level continues to rise through each level, going from cannon-fodder footsoldiers to titanic monsters begging for a thunder hammer to the face.
Not only is Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 an impressive technical display, with how many enemies are allowed on-screen at any given time, it’s also the most fun I’ve personally ever had with a shooter since Halo 3.
Like Bungie’s trilogy finale Space Marine 2 feels near-infinitely replayable, and new multiplayer content is regularly added to keep players coming back.
Whether you’ve been a lifelong fan of Warhammer 40k or don’t know your Necrons from your Genestealers, Space Marine 2 is well-worth your time and it’s now free with your PlayStation Plus Extra subscription.
If you’d like to make it a permanent part of your game library it’s also currently on sale, with the base version setting you back £20.
