PlayStation Plus subscribers have huge expectations for August's free games

Subscribers believe some seriously fantastic games are coming our way.

It’s almost time for Sony to announce what games are going to be handed out to PlayStation Plus subscribers next month, and you know what that means. Predictions and rumours are currently running rampant online, and fans are expecting some seriously huge games.

As we all know, PlayStation Plus’ Essential-tier offerings can be a bit hit or miss. For every gem like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, there’s something like Fallout 76 to serve as a reminder that going into each month’s PS Plus announcement, we should probably temper our expectations. Clearly, not everyone got that memo this month.

Until 31 July, PS Plus subscribers can claim Endling: Extinction is Forever - take a look at the trailer below.

Over on Reddit, PlayStation users have been sharing their predictions for August’s PS Plus Essential freebies, and depending on what actually gets announced, it seems like there could be some seriously disappointed people. Many are predicting that the excellent rogue-like dungeon crawler (and GAMINGbible’s 2020 Game of the Year) Hades will be included in August’s lineup. This would be a truly fantastic choice - the gameplay is endlessly engrossing, the characters are charming, and their interactions are phenomenal.

Another popular prediction is Marvel’s Spider-Man. Insomniac Games’ 2018 action-adventure was recently pulled from PlayStation Plus’ Extra-tier catalogue, and obviously, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is right around the corner, so it’d be a great time to hand it out.

There’s also a fair few people predicting that Cyberpunk 2077 will be included, and given that the Phantom Liberty DLC is releasing in September, giving away the base game right now would give gamers just the right amount of time to get caught up ahead of the expansion’s release.

Disco Elysium is another popular guess. Developed by ZA/UM, this unique RPG is genuinely groundbreaking - each of the game’s characters feel totally alive thanks to the incredible writing and voice acting, and the freedom to approach interactions in numerous different ways is truly brilliant. If this really is given out as one of August’s freebies, I implore you to give it a go if you haven’t already.

Obviously, at the time of writing, none of this has been confirmed by Sony, it’s just pure speculation from fans. Needless to say, if any of those games are included in August’s offerings, we’re in for a great month.
