With the prices of both software and hardware increasing dramatically over recent years, it is no wonder that it is getting harder to justify the cost of the latest AAA release.

However, it seems as though Sony is making things a whole lot easier for PlayStation users after announcing that it would be cutting the price of over 400 games in a limited-time event.

Known as the Player’s Choice promotion and kicking off on 8 October on the PlayStation Store, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users will now be able to access an extensive library of games and save up to a massive 75% off.

“While we’re approaching boogeyman season, your evenings needn’t be filled with frights (unless you enjoy a good scare!),” the official blog post reads.

“Find something fun to play, explore fantastical frontiers, rediscover a favorite game series and more with PlayStation Store’s Player’s Choice promotion, offering a selection of games at reduced prices for a limited time*.”

The official blog post lists every single game that has received a discount during this event and with over 400 to choose from, I will not list them all here.

However, there are definitely some that have caught my eye as our team has loved them over the years.

The first is Alan Wake 2, which incidentally, is also set to be one of October’s PlayStation Plus picks.

In his review, our very own Richard Lee Breslin gave it a 9/10.

“I’m glad to say that Alan Wake 2 is not only one of the best games of 2023 but it also surpasses the 2010 original in almost every way. It does everything you’d want from a sequel,” he wrote.

“Alan Wake 2 looks better, it plays better, it sounds better and it brings scares in abundance.”

Taking 2024 by storm, Balatro is also welcoming a discount and our own Dan Lipscombe called it “a chaotically brilliant hand of poker” in his review.

“Even as I’m writing this review all I want to do is close my laptop and play more Balatro. I want to take down those bosses, earn big banks, and completely destroy this card game.

While this isn’t a perfect game, it’s one that will stay in my playing rotation for many months to come.”

Some other titles available at a steep discount are BioShock: The Collection, Blue Prince, 10 Call of Duty entries, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, God of War: Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, It Takes Two and many many more.

The PlayStation Player’s Choice promotion is live on PlayStation Store from Wednesday, October 8 at 00:00 AM PDT/BST/JST and finishes Wednesday October 22 at 11:59 PM PDT/BST/JST.
