A new month is officially underway and that means another batch of incredible titles arriving to the PlayStation Plus library.
Although the arrival of a new batch means that our September offerings will soon be leaving the service, it is definitely not all bad as October’s first PlayStation Plus titles consist of a really good selection.
The PlayStation Plus Essential October 2025 free monthly games have already begun rolling out in some Asian countries which means it will not be long before we get them here in the west.
Expected to go live at noon today, let us take a look at the first three games heading to the PS Plus library this October.

First up is Alan Wake 2, the much-loved sequel to Alan Wake and the perfect title to play this Halloween month.
First released back in 2023, the survival horror by Remedy Entertainment was nominated for Game of the Year so it is testament to how incredible this creepy, dimension-jumping tale really is.
Next up is Cocoon, a 2023 puzzle adventure game where players will take on the role of a beetle that has the ability to jump between worlds.
By solving puzzles along the way, players will be able to help the beetle uncover the universe’s greatest mysteries.

Last but by no means least is Goat Simulator 3.
So good they made it three times, the third instalment in the action video game series by Coffee Stain North will continue your sandbox farmyard experience by seeing you take on the role of a lively herd of goats.
Team up with friends in four-player cooperative mode to create carnage, complete mini-games or just spend some time with the not-so-adorable head-butters in another visit to the smash-hit franchise.
Both Cocoon and Goat Simulator 3 will be available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 whereas Alan Wake 2 will only be available on the latter.

This makes sense considering that Sony is set to focus more on PlayStation 5 titles only as of January 2026 so be prepared for your PS4 to become more and more obsolete over time when it comes to the PlayStation Plus subscription service.
However, Alan Wake 2 is definitely worth it as our very own Richard Lee Breslin gave the 2023 hit an impressive 9/10 in his review.
“I’m glad to say that Alan Wake 2 is not only one of the best games of 2023 but it also surpasses the 2010 original in almost every way. It does everything you’d want from a sequel.
Alan Wake 2 looks better, it plays better, it sounds better and it brings scares in abundance.

[It] is another crown jewel in Remedy Entertainment’s library and a sequel that will delight fans. That being said, let’s just hope we’re not waiting as long for the next game.”
