This year celebrates the 20th anniversary of God of War and to celebrate, Santa Monica Studio is adding a brand-new collection to God of War Ragnarök.

It is hard to believe that the first ever God of War was released almost 20-years ago on 22 March, 2005.

Check out God of War: Ragnarök in the story trailer below!

Since then, the series has come on leaps and bounds and more recently, players have been able to revisit the action-adventure titles courtesy of 2018’s God of War and its sequel, God of War Ragnarök.

“Back in 2005 when the first God of War released, no one at Santa Monica Studio anticipated the success this series would have,” the official blog post reads.

“As we reflect back on the past two decades of God of War, we want to celebrate this milestone with you by sharing the exciting things we have planned leading up to the anniversary.”

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original title, Santa Monica Studio has revealed a gift to all those who own God of War Ragnarök.

On 20 March, those eligible will receive a free update on both PlayStation and PC which includes the Dark Odyssey collection at no extra cost.

The collection, which is inspired by the original God of War title, includes a skin that originally appeared in God of War II and was awarded to players who beat the game on the God Mode difficulty.

However, it is now yours for free for the modern-day Kratos.

Once the update has gone live on the 20 March, players will be able to equip the skin in any in-game Lost Item chests whilst in the base game, or automatically if you have the Valhalla DLC.

The collection includes both a skin and an armour set so you can choose which way you want Kratos to look.

If you would prefer the armoured look, the collection adds the Dark Odyssey Breastplate, Dark Odyssey Bracers, and Dark Odyssey Belt and they can be seen over on the official PlayStation blog post.

There is also companion armour available for both Freya and Atreus, as well as new weapon appearances and attachments.

Last but not least, players will be rewarded with new shield appearances with six to choose from.
