To celebrate 30 years of PlayStation, Sony has announced loads of free downloads. Happy days!

The original PlayStation arrived in 1994 and it made an instant statement for Sony to become one of the giants of the console market. Over the years, PlayStation gamers have enjoyed the likes of Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, and most recently, Astro Bot.

“Hello, PlayStation fans! As we celebrate this Friday’s upcoming release of Astro Bot, Team Asobi’s tribute to 30 years of iconic PlayStation characters, stories, and magical moments, we want to thank you for the love and passion you’ve shown for PlayStation,” said the VP of global marketing at SIE, Isabelle Tomatis in a blog post.

“Your enduring support has made these past three decades possible. While PlayStation’s 30th anniversary is still a few months away, today we’re delighted to share some of the ways we’ll be commemorating this milestone with all of you.”

This weekend, not only can gamers play free multiplayer with no PlayStation Plus needed, but they can also qualify for esports tournaments to win prizes. What's more, later this year, a free trial for Gran Turismo 7 is on the way.

The free trial (which could require PS Plus), is “designed to attract diverse players of all skill levels to the globally acclaimed Gran Turismo 7.” During the trial, you will have access to select cars, tracks and race events. Further details on the trial are promised at a later date.

Furthermore, each month from October to January 2024, Sony will be releasing new digital soundtracks on the streaming platform, Spotify. Those soundtracks will begin with God of War (2005), followed by God of War II, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Twisted Metal, Starhawk and finally, Unit 13. The digital soundtracks will also be available via other music retailers.

Hopefully, the PlayStation 30th anniversary celebrations will also see discounts on the PlayStation Store as well as new campaigns offering reward points and digital collectables with PS Stars. It will be worth keeping an eye on Sony’s socials just in case any of that goodness drops.

In the meantime, we can enjoy Sony’s latest critically acclaimed PlayStation 5 exclusive, Astro Bot, available now.
